Habitat in Transition

about

The “Habitat in Transition” (HabiT) Ph.D. program is a three-year English-language initiative designed to cultivate candidates poised for innovative and experimental research across diverse design disciplines.

objectives

The role of design in defining new habitats

With a commitment to addressing the complexities arising from global changes, the program seeks to guide society toward sustainable and inclusive transitions, fostering the creation of new habitats through original, feasible, and effective exploratory pathways. Supported by rigorous scientific methodologies and diverse knowledge, HabiT merges advanced research with a comprehensive educational curriculum.

HabiT strives to establish a unique research field dedicated to sustainable transition, forging a new ecological epistemology. This paradigm shift envisions comprehensive sustainability through a renewed dialogue between culture, nature, society, and economy, operating within a ‘pluriverse’ dimension that challenges contemporary development models. Emphasizing design-driven research as a specialized form of investigation rooted in cultural and scientific foundations, HabiT aims to provide innovative solutions to emerging problems.

employment and career outlets

Design-driven careers for sustainable impact

The HabiT Ph.D. program seeks to transcend disciplinary boundaries, fostering relationships between production, design, and the environment. By contributing to a paradigm shift, it prepares candidates for diverse career opportunities. The program’s multicultural and transdisciplinary research environment, housed within the Department of Architecture, offers a comprehensive training approach, combining fundamental research, specific research aligned with candidates’ interests, and design-focused exploration through the development of the Ph.D. thesis.

Upon completion, graduates of the HabiT program, limited to a select number (6 Ph.D. grants) with dedicated scholarships for foreign students, will possess competencies and skills necessary to support and inform the development of policies and strategies. These strategies aim to provide innovative responses to sustainable human development, making HabiT alumni well-equipped for a wide range of impactful career opportunities.
